A Letter to My Son

Dearest Son,

You are probably too young and now in dreamland having your baby dreams while your father is typing this. Tomorrow is a very important day. A day that many Malaysians including your own parents are waiting for. A day that for once a chance to take back the country and to empower the people of this country with the right to choose our government.

For 55 years or so, our country has only seen one ruling party since independence. It started off well but as the decades pass, more and more ill-governance and corruption creep into the system. The rights of the people are trampled, and the the mismanagement of the country began to get worst. For many elections, there were no alternatives to them and many of us fail to see the importance of a general election.

However, this general election is very important. With the political tsunami in 308 which drove the ruling coalition into losing their 2/3 majority in the parliament and the loss of 4 states, the ground is set for this coming GE 13. Now we have an alternative. Yes, it is true that if we successfully install this alternative as the government of the day may not be any better BUT the most important thing is that we Malaysians now have the power to decide who rules this country.

Tomorrow, many of us will go to vote not only for ourselves, but for your future and the future of your generation and the ones to come after yours. It is an election that many Malaysians stand up and say 'IT'S ENOUGH!' and 'It's time to take our country back'. For many its for the hope that Malaysia can truly live up to its potential, to achieve greatness together and not only for a select group of elites.

We will step up and answer the call for CHANGE. So that one day when you are old enough to understand, we can tell you proudly that we stood up that day and be counted. Whatever happens tomorrow, I hope that Malaysia will be a better place for you and your generation. This is the least we can do.

My Son,

Hope however how faint it is, will forever burn in our hearts that one day Malaysia will be the Malaysia we dream of. A place where all men and women are treated equally. Where no one is left behind. Where we can proudly call ourselves Malaysians.

Have a good sleep, my Son.
